Independence Day 2024

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the staff and students of Saint John’s Academy on 15th August 2024.
Our Principal, Dr Zareen Rivi, hoisted the National Flag, and the NCC cadets offered a National salute, followed by the National Anthem.
A short cultural programme was presented on this special occasion by the students. The event was hosted by Kriti Mishra, the Head Girl of Class 12 B.
In his speech, the Head Boy, Vijjwal Singh, reflected on the deeper significance of Independence Day. He emphasised that beyond its nationalistic value, the day serves as a unifying force in times of political, economic, and social challenges. He highlighted that true independence lies not only in our history but in our understanding and application of the Constitution, urging everyone to continue nurturing the awakened “Indian mind” that transcends communal boundaries. Citing former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he reminded the audience that while governments may change, the nation must endure. The speech concluded with a call to the current generation to take responsibility for realising India’s potential by striving for excellence and continuing the legacy of unity and integrity.
In her speech, Muskan Singh of Class 12 A invoked the words of the great revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil to remind everyone of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters. She reflected on the significance of remembering the struggles and sacrifices that won us our freedom, emphasising that it is our duty to honour this legacy by passing on the values and ideals that shaped our nation to future generations. Muskan also highlighted the role of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, and Dr B. R. Ambedkar in uniting the country against British oppression and ensuring equal rights for all citizens as enshrined in Article 14 of the Constitution. She concluded by urging everyone to cherish our cultural values and contribute to nation-building with unity and pride.
A skit titled Rashtrawadi ke Parivaar ki Ankahi Kahani was performed by the students of Classes X to XII, stirring a deep sense of patriotism among the audience. A captivating dance performance to Lehra Do was also presented by the students of Classes XI and XII.
An Independence Day rally was organised by the NCC cadets, spreading the spirit of patriotism beyond the school campus.
In her address, the Principal emphasised the responsibilities that come with freedom, urging everyone to reflect on the ideals of justice, equality, and fraternity that our freedom fighters envisioned. She reminded the students that their education is not just for personal growth but also for the betterment of the nation. She encouraged them to contribute to India’s progress by upholding values of respect, integrity, and hard work. The Principal also highlighted the crucial role of teachers in shaping responsible citizens and called upon everyone to pledge their commitment to making India prosperous, united, and strong.
The day was filled with a profound sense of honour, pride, and love for our great nation, India.
